Hello,
My wife and I are looking to retire in Malaysia and I have read many blogs and looked at many units online that are available for rent. The only confusing thing is I do not see kitchens in the unit. I saw one of the room rentals had it where everyone shares the kitchen. Is this customary or am I missing something?
I appreciate any advice you can offer.

Hi Elmo,
according to my experience (>20 years) the real estate agents do not show (a lot of) pics and hardly any floor plans. Anyhow all apartments which are furnished or partly furnished come with a kitchen. That does not say anything about the standard?!
I would recommend you to rent short term (Google: short term rental apartment Penang) for a week (you can always extend) and look around. There are plenty of apartments to choose from and it might be better to have a look at them first (location, standard, noise, pollution) before you enter 2 years tenancy agreement.
If you have any further questions don’t hesitate.
Karl

Penang is so much a better place to retire than in KL, beaches, convenience of shopping malls, hospitals, and food.
Better place to relax than busy dusty KL.

Funny how many misconceptions there are about Malaysia.
Apartments in Penang ALL have kitchens (and believe or not, running water and toilets). Actually homes here much higher quality than in the miserable US (I know I own one)
PM me if you need help as I live in Penang (13 yrs now)
