getting sponsored to work in Malaysia without work visa

Hi, I have just moved to Malaysia with my husband, he is working for a large international company and I am here as a dependent on his visa. However I would like to work and am wondering how easy/difficult it will be to get a job who might sort out a visa for me.
Alternatively, does anyone have experience of working here without a work visa?

dear lady,
malaysian immigration authorities are known to be pretty tough (unforgiving) when it comes to breaking such rules. stubborn aussies had been sent home on the spot just because they tried to be funny filling entry forms.

better to learn the rules here before finding yourself in very difficult situation.

it is probably much easier for you to get a job in singpore if you have the credentials. and spore is not that far (assuming you are in KL), though inconvenient. probably later you can work from home depending on you. of course they pay much better.

with recently introduced rules, your employer can be caned as well, so dont bother to try.

giving private home tution is probably the safest bet.

good luck.

Generally the Malaysian Government wants to encourage dependents to work. Unfortunately the regulations are not very helpful but I know from our experience that the approval for the post (1st stage) is usually given to companies who apply. The big questions will be if the company who is willing to employ you wants to all the paperwork.
Below are the regulations:
"Working conditions for Dependent Pass holder

The Husband/Wife of the Expatriate Officer holding the Dependent Pass is permitted to work without having to change his/her Dependent Pass to the Employment Pass on condition that he/she acquires working approval from the Immigration Department

Terms and conditions
1. Job Offer from any company/Government Agency
2. Prior approval from approving agencies such as: MIDA, MDEC, Bank Negara, Securities Commission, Public Services Department.
3. For those without approval from any agency, application is subjected to conditions laid down by the Expatriate Committee."

Note by kebi: the procedure is the same as for any work permit approval. First step is for the company to get the approval of the post. It is easier to get it if you apply for a "Dependent". The conditions could be found: http://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/m...ion-for-a-post

"Procedures - Work Permit by Endorsement
1. Applications can be submitted to the Employment Pass Division of the Immigration Headquarter Putrajaya or the nearest Immigration Office in any state.
2. Applications for Work Permit by Endorsement can be submitted on approval of the Dependents for application:
i. Cover letter and Letter of Authority from the company.
ii. DP11 Form
iii. Job offer or Employment Contract
iv. A photocopy of the complete passport.
