There is a great job within my company in Kota Kinabalu and I'm considering applying for it. One big concern, however, is I'm unsure what kind of visa my husband will be able to get. I realize Malaysia does not recognize same sex marriage and that same sex relations are actually illegal so he wouldn't be able to get a partner/spouse visa, but I was wondering if anyone had insights into other possible visa's available to us. We are both US citizens which I know on occasion can help with this issue. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Zach, maybe your husband can consider applying for a job in Malaysia as well? Otherwise, try contacting the US embassy here to find out about whether your marriage certificate can be used to apply for a spouse visa. American Citizen Services Inquiries: Telephone: 60-3-2168-4997 Fax: 60-3-2148-5801 Email: klacs@state.gov The third option is to visit Malaysia as visitor. A visitor gets 90 days stay but he will have to travel every 3 months for a new visa. This however, can't be done too many times. Hope the information helps and good luck!

LolliesKL thanks for your response. Unfortunately I doubt my husband will be able to find something considered "skilled" or highpaying enough to get a work visa on his own. I will certainly get in touch with the US embassy thank you for the suggestion. Also a 3 month visitors visa would work assuming there was no waiting period to renew (for example having to leave for a week/month) and you could do it unlimited times, but it does not sound like you think that is the case. Does anyone know more about the visitor visa's?
Thanks, Zach

Hi Zach, I assume (from you name) you are Jewish and for sure you are gay. That’s fine with me but somehow it reminds me at “Lethal Weapon 2” when Danny Glover went to the South African Embassy. I hope you don’t misunderstand what I’m saying.

Ebinger nether of us is Jewish though I don't know why that would matter and I'm afraid I must be missing something with the Lethal Weapon reference can you be a bit more clear.
Thanks, Zach

I liked the scene when an African American went to the South African Embassy (during apartheid) because he wanted to migrate there. Malaysia is not really Jewish friendly. If you have an entry visa from Israel in your passport you are not allowed to enter Malaysia. Malaysia has quite strict laws against sex between man (see Anwar Ibrahim case, former Deputy Prime Minister). Generally the people are very tolerant in Malaysia but by law…

Not really, in fact to call a spade a spade, there is a very real threat for Jews to stay in Malaysia, the same as in many Muslim countries.
