Find the nearest Malaysian councillor office or consulate and ask them. Just Google Malaysian Consulates in the United States and you will find one. There will almost certainly be one on the west coast, probably L.A. or San Fran.

I wouldn’t know anyone from any other country who got the Malaysian Citizenship. I live here for more than 20 years and my mother in law for more than 50 and she did not get it.

Many Malaysians wanting to get citizenship for their foreign spouses can tell you it is much easier to strike a jackpot than landing a citizenship.
However, on the other hand if I am not mistaken generally Singapore government is still opening doors for citizenship with T&C of course.
Many singaporeans do travel to Malaysia frequently as "investor" and "tourist". A bus trip between singapore and malaysia is less than US$2. But cost of living there is absurd. still many manage to get by. Not too long ago many mainland Chinese and Indians got singapore citizenships in droves. and of course many dont have $ compared to Americans.
regards
