In the past definitely no. But the government here seems to change / flex the rules every now and then. No one is sure, put it simply.
In the past, there are many Malaysians with foreign wives practically qualified medical doctors are not even allowed to practise as doctors here.
It could probably a wrong decision to quit a job when you have one. Why not give your hubby time to settle in KL and see if it can be done some kind of arrangement with his boss. His boss is employing him not you, so the boss is not obliged in any way.
Also jobs are offered to foreigners if there are no one qualified here. In reality there are hundred of thousands unemployed IT graduates here, only problem I heard is their inablity to converse well in English. So once all those graduates polished their English, you will have a tough time. Usually the real problem is the kind of salary offered not even appealing to the locals and use other problems to disguise that. It is a well-known problem in Malaysia, employers not keen to offer meaningful competitive salary except for multinational giants.

I don't know which country my2cents is referring to because generally the Malaysian Government wants to encourage dependents to work.
Unfortunately the regulations are not very helpful but I know from our experience that the approval for the post (1st stage) is usually given to companies who apply. The big questions will be if the company who is willing to employ you wants to do all the paperwork. Below are the regulations:
"Working conditions for Dependent Pass holder:
The Husband/Wife of the Expatriate Officer holding the Dependent Pass is permitted to work without having to change his/her Dependent Pass to the Employment Pass on condition that he/she acquires working approval from the Immigration Department Terms and conditions
1. Job Offer from any company/Government Agency
2. Prior approval from approving agencies such as: MIDA, MDEC, Bank Negara, Securities Commission, Public Services Department.
3. For those without approval from any agency, application is subjected to conditions laid down by the Expatriate Committee."
(Note by kebinger): The procedure is the same as for any work permit approval. First step is for the company to get the approval of the post. It is easier to get it if they apply for a "Dependent". The conditions could be found: http://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/m...ion-for-a-post "Procedures - Work Permit by Endorsement
1. Applications can be submitted to the Employment Pass Division of the Immigration Headquarter Putrajaya or the nearest Immigration Office in any state. 2. Applications for Work Permit by Endorsement can be submitted on approval of the Dependents for application: i. Cover letter and Letter of Authority from the company. ii. DP11 Form iii. Job offer or Employment Contract iii. A photocopy of the complete passport. Fees Charged - Free"
Malaysia has a shortage of qualified people in any field an IT professionals a rare species here. That's why the government gives incentives to those who start an IT business here.
Just for the record: A spouse of a Malaysian can work in any field and will be given a work permit without and restrictions. If a doctor does not qualify as doctor the health department won't allow him/her to work.

Like I wrote, "In the past". So, if probably you are right, things have changed dramatically then.
Yes, please refer to what kebinger wrote, most likely he knows better.
Those things that I wrote can be easily verified by newspaper readers, Dr Mahathir time of course.

Sorry, it seems I was not clear enough. To be employed under “Dependent Pass” the employer has to apply for the position first through Immigration. He needs a supportive letter from one of the agencies. It is easier for him to get a supportive letter for a “dependent”.
To be on the save side I would look for a job prior to the departure through some of the head-hunters or place and ad/check vacancies at jobstreet or similar online pages.
I will not interfere in your family decisions and no one can guaranty to get a job . My saying is: “where there is a will there is a way”

My foreign husband & I in 2015 applied for a Spouse Visa. He is granted a 2 year stay specifically stating that he is not permitted to work. If he wants to work, the Malaysian spouse has to fill in a form permitting him to seek employment and has to apply for a work permit.

I know it is quite easy to get the work permit if you are married to a Malaysian citizen. You do not even have to get the the post approved first and no minimum salary of RM 5000. The spouse just has to apply as soon as any employer offers a job. Below the official guideline from Immigration:
.The foreign husband/wife is permitted to work in Malaysia without having to change their Social Visit Pass to the Employment Pass on condition that the spouse has acquired work approval from the Immigration Department.
2.The approval is in the form of an endorsement on the passport/travel document.
3.The endorsement is given free of charge.
4.The endorsement entitles the holder to work in any legal profession.
5.The application for the endorsement can be made at the Visa, Pass and Permit Division Immigration Head Quarters or at the nearest state Immigration office.
6.The permit is effective any time after or during the submission of the Social Visit Pass.
7.The letter of application should be submitted together with a copy of the letter of appointment/company registration evidence, marriage certificate and a valid Long Term Social Visit Pass.
