I am Australian and moving to Malaysia in September this year and curious about the "Visa Run" system some people use. How long can a person do that for. I am married to a Malay and and self funded but am finding many "official" hurdles with resident type visa's. Am curious as to whether this is am option for me.

Hi Gregkh,
Visa runs are not a favorable option in Malaysia. Immigration does not like the visa runners and as soon as they think they got one they will give her/him only a 2 week visa at the best.
But since you are married to a Malay Citizen it shouldn’t be a problem to get the spouse program visa. Its a lot of paperwork i.e. wedding photos, confirmation by a court that you are still married etc. but if got all this you will get the visa. For the first application they might give you only 2 years but the renewal is usually 5 years. With the spouse program you can also apply for work permit with any company in Malaysia. You only need to show an employment agreement. It differs to other employment passes by no requirement of a minimum salary, qualifications and the company’s approval to employ an expat.

Hi Kebinger, thank you for the info,
I have read a little about the Spouse visa and thought it was a requirement to have a job guarantee before you apply.
I wanted to apply for a MM2H visa but at 53 will not have a outside income (pension) from Australia as the requirement seems to be. I have advice from a visa agent that I should apply while I am still working here and I should not have a problem... But he gets paid even if I am unsuccessful with my application.
Do you or anyone else reading this have advise on the MM2H visa ???

Why would you want to go for an expensive visa which requires even more paperwork (prove of monthly income, funds, health certificate, health insurance...) than the spouse program. Just make sure that you marriage certificate is recognized in Malaysia. Here is the link to immigration Malaysia for the long term visit pass: http://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/main-services/pass/7-perkhidmatan-utama/264-long-term-social-visit-pass
