Life in Villahermosa with Children

We are considering a move from the US to Villahermosa for a new job. We have 2 children (ages 2 & 5). Can anyone post information about the schools? We heard that there is an English language school, but that's all we know. Nobody is fluent in Spanish in our family!

Any other advice/information for a young expat family in Villahermosa is welcome. Thanks.

My family recently left a town near Villahermosa. I really strongly recommend that you place your children in a local spanish speaking school. The quality of the kindergardens and junior schools is excellent. My son entered at age 2 speaking no spanish and left two years later fluent. He adapted really easily. This will also help you integrate into the community. And don't worry about living there, its safe and beautiful.

Hi, Did you manage to move to Villahermosa? I am currently in the process of moving to Coatzacoalcos, about 1-1/2 hrs from Villahermosa. I'm searching for other expats in the area, just because our lives are very different and sometimes we just need to share a few words with each other. I've joined a tennis club here and am meeting local women, so I've started the integration process. We hope to be here for 1-2 yrs, maybe more. ¿Quien sabe?

Can you give me an update as to your impression of raising children in Mexico as it looks like you have been there for some time now.. I have a teenager who I might bring down, but after living in Mazatlan for 2 years, I am extremely concerned about personal security (for him).. Is the Villahermosa area better in this regard?? What is it like there.

Thanks
a.k.

Hi,

Rasing children in Mexico is very safe, but it all depends on the city you want to move at to see if there is a good international school.
You might find Mazatlan dangerous for your kid, and the reason is because Mazatlan is a touristic. If you have a city in mind, let me know to provide you with a list of schools in the area that might help you get an idea of education.

I live in Mexico City and I dont recommend you to move here, but there are many cities in this country that will give you a great quality of life for you and your children.

I agree that raising children in Mexico is far safer than in the U.S. Where in this country (U.S.) can you see children playing at 10 PM in a park? It is common in Mexico.
