Hello :) My family (of four) are moving to Puerto Escondido this July, due to my husbands relocation of work. 1- When do you suggest we go to the Consulate to apply for our fm3 visas? Does it take a while for them to go through?
2- I need to go back to the USA every four months to get my perscription medicines for RA. ( 5 of them) How much can I bring back to Mexico on the plane? There will be four months of pre-filled syringes and bottles as well. All in original containers as prescribed. 3- My husband is driving to Mexico. He was wondering how much band equipment he can bring in his car? (Guitars and amplifiers). Thank you so much!

1. Your husband will need his employer's assistance in getting his visa with permission to work in Mexico. I assume that they can do that in Mexico, but he should certainly get that information from the employer. Unless you are shipping household goods, you can actually go to Mexico on an FMT and get your FM3 when you have your address, etc. That is actually easier, because you'll have to register the FM3 within 30 days of crossing the border anyway. 2. You shouldn't have to return to the USA for medications; everything is available here; just bring the 4 month prescriptions to show to an MD here (and to customs if asked), if controlled substances. If they aren't, just buy them at a 'farmacia'. 3. Each person is allowed one musical instrument, I think. You can get definite information from a consulate or a Mexican Customs website. Enjoy Mexico.

Hi again. I'm sorry ( I need to clairify what I had asked) My husband's business is relocating to Mx. But the company is from USA. He will be working online. Would we still need an fm3 ? How much time would we need to apply for one?
And as far as my prescription meds. I need to go back to the US to get them free of cost with my health insurance. If I were to buy them in Mx, the cost would still be over 1,000 US dollars per month. Would you have any other suggestions? Thanks again :)

Yes, each family member will require an FM3 and your husband's company must assist him in getting it, even if he is working online. It is a requirement of INM (Immigration). Again, you can enter on a tourist permit (FMT) for up to 180 days and you'll have 149 of those days to start the FM3 process, unless you are shipping household goods; then, you will need to get the FM3 from the Mexican Consulate closest to your present home. They can advise on timing, menaje de casa for the shippment and registration of the FM3 within 30 days of entering Mexico. (If your company is moving to Mexico, it certainly has all of the necessary information re; employees. They sure will need it!) Check to see if your insurance will reimburse you for medications purchased in Mexico; mine does for most things. Going back to the USA is a huge expense and an unpleasant experience for those of us who have lived here for many years.
