At the border

Hello, I've been doing alot of research regarding moving our family to Mexico. I understand most of the "red tape". However I do have a couple of questions re: the border.
So...1st, when you arrive at the border, do you say your just going on vacation? We will have both our cars, cat, dog, and less than 1000 dollars worth of belongs so we don't have to speak to a customs agent. But it seems obvious to me that we look like were moving. I'm not sure what to say, so we don't get into all the red tape of proving income as we, my wife and I plan on working and obtaining a fm2 visa once we arrive at our destination?
We greatly appreciate any response.
Thanks!

1. You will be visiting on an FMM permit, which you will fill out at Immigration. It will be good for 180 days. However, if you intend to stay more than the 180 days, you will have to go to INM at your destination, within 30 days, and apply for your 'inmigrante credencial', which takes the place of the old FM2, which is no longer issued.
2. You must have the vet's letter of good health and up to date shot records for the animals.
3. You cannot work in Mexico without the permission of INM. So, unless you already have a job and the employer will support your INM applications for a working visa, you will have to prove income from outside of Mexico to get the visa.

If you can't meet those requirements, you will have to leave Mexico, with the cars, before the 180 day FMM expires.
By the way; if you get the red light at the border, you will be speaking with customs and you will be inspected.

Don't forget that the certificate of health needs to be no older than 72 hours prior to crossing the boarder. Also would be a good idea to have proof of worming for the pets, had a major problem in Mexico City bringing our dog into country with the "required" documents. Missed connecting flight and was a pain finding a "pet freindly" hotel in Mexico City. BE AWARE.
