My wife and I moved here two years ago and we do not live in Merida but close. Schools for your child will not be a problem as Merida has some wonderul private schools plus if you decide to live outside of Merida. Like Izamal or Motul you will find very good public and private schools in those areas. I would highly recommend that you bring any electronics that you will be using. Electronics here are very expensive. You can purchase a vehicle here but my recommendation is to bring a car from the US and also you might want to bring an extra set of tires. Cars, Motorcycles, Scooters, Tires, Appliances, eletronics tend to be very expensive and not as good as quality as found in the US. It does get hot here but mostly in April, May and June when temperatures can reach 100 degrees. We prefer to live in a small village which is very quiet and when we need to purchase something not available in our area, we will drive to Merida. Personally I don't like traffic and the problems that come with a large city. The village we live in is Mayan and most of the people speak Mayan as their primary language with Spanish as secondary. They are very friendly and honest and a delight to be around. Finding a home for 600 a month will be no problem however if you decide to move to a village, you can get a larger home for the same money. I hope this information helps and you can contact Tierra Yucatan in Merida and they can help you with your rental needs. Just ask for Jen. She speaks English and Spanish.
