Telmex cancellation system

New Topic Newest First

I signed for the Telmex combo Internet-fixed landline phone service as it was required in order to take advantage of the internet service.

What I fail to understand : when you need to cancel the package service, you need to do so in a 2-step manner;
cancel the internet service first and then wait 10 days before cancelling the fixed homebase phone service.

Can someebody provide the logic behind ?

There is little logic in Latin American countries. Don't look for it, you won't find it. You will find incompetence though. It might be reasonable that you got incorrect information. When I cancel it won't be a two step process, it will be one step in the form of a letter of cancellation of both along with the return of the equipment they provided.

This is Mexico. Logic, that term is not applicable here.

It was at the local Playa del Carmen in the state of Quintana Roo.
The male employee insisted on requiring me to go through thsi 2-step procedure.

When I told him I was leaving Mexico for quite some time , he recommended to use the services of a friend or neighbour in Playa del carmen to fulfill the 2nd step requirement( waiting 10 days before initiating the 2nd step).

Sounds like you need to walk away. Maybe write a letter of cancelation to the company and drop it off at their office with any equipment due to be returned. I wouldn't split hairs on this.

Agree with other waste of time and frustration to look for common sense..but will say when we changed from Telmex to Cablemas, and returned the equipment, if I wanted to keep by telmex phone number and transfer to cablemas I had to wait 10 days..I didn't care so canceled everything at one time. Good Luck and keep all paperwork proving cancellation..

We use Cablevision so this does not apply to us. But my guess is that the people that administer the landline and internet are two separate groups and it takes 10 days for the cancellation information to show up on the internet service providers database. Just a guess. After 4 years of doing business in Mexico I've learned that they are not very good at coordinating systems. In order to coordinate service or anything else you need standardization, which requires government enforcement. Say what you want about regulations but they do serve a purpose.

HA! WELCOME TO MEXICO!! THERE IS NO LOGIC TO MANY THINGS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER. Wait until you get a credit card with a Mexican bank!.. The interest rate is 46% (or was a couple years ago) PLUS 16% federal tax, PLUS commissions and other fees. When I tried to close my account, you know, pay off the 500 peso balance and cancel the card, it could not be done! I had to pay another year's fee of 300 pesos, wait for a new bill, then close it out. Just one of the reasons I spend most of my time in Houston instead of Tequis.

Wait until you have a problem with your power bill! Another real pleasant experience.

Hey Everybody,

I have some in-laws that have been living in Mexico for a couple years now. At first they had similar problems communicating with utility, phone and water companies in Mexico due to having limited local knowledge and American credit cards. They would receive their statements and have to locate a store they could pay their bills with in cash until they found a better service online.

Regalii.com hosts statements, balances, and other financial services for most big companies including CFE, Telcel/Telmex, and Iusacell in Mexico and the team at Regalii allows you to not only pay online- but can also provide help with issues such as this with Telmex. If you give their customer service a call directly, 1-800-917-7198 there is always a representative who can communicate with the company directly and help resolve any issues (or help you pay your bill).

Hope to help,
Donovan
