Hi, I was thinking about moving to Mexico and a friend told me I should look into Lake Chapalla. I would appreciate any information about cost of living and anything else that I might need to know. TY

Let me tell a little bit about where I call home or my little piece of paradise. There are several villages on the North West edge of Lake Chapala. Yes, villages. This is not a metropolitan area. Guad is about 30-40 minutes away with an international airport so that is a plus. If you go to youtube and put in Lake Chapala, there are many videos of the area. We are at about 5000 ft. between the mountains and the lake, and have wonderful weather. Right now we are experiencing a cold snap but this is very unusual. There are many expats in the area. About half are snowbirds. The houses are very quaint. You will see cars, many buses, trucks, horses, donkeys, cows and scooters. And that might be in one day. The pace of life is much slower but we are kept quite busy. We have lots of live music, artists, writers, quilters, theatres for performing in and just about anything else you might enjoy or have always wanted to do. We have karaoke and a community choir. People are very friendly. Single women feel comfortable. Alternative lifestyles are accepted. Fresh produce is everywhere and meat and poultry is very good. Cost of living is low. I am sure that there are places where is it lower but we have so much to offer. It is very hard to tell you everything about this area. I do much better answering specific questions. Feel free to PM me and I will answer you. Kitt Vincent

Lake Chapala is one of the world's best climates without a doubt, and home to thousands of expats from Canada, the USA and around the world. It is within an easy taxi ride from the Guad airport so access is easy. There are thousands of websites devoted to the area. Check out http://www.tiocorpinsurance.com/ for expat non-residency info.

Chapala was my home for over 13 years, but we had to move back to the USA for VA and Medicare. Not a happy move! I would much rather live in Chapala, but I was spending too much time and money in Guadalajara hospitals.
(please do not call it Guad)
