The Residente Temporal is good for more than 180 days up to 1, 2, 3 or 4 years. The variable is how much visa you want to pay for at the time. The cost differences are as follows: 1 year – $3,519 pesos 2 year – $5,272 pesos 3 year – $6,678 pesos 4 year – $7,914 pesos After having lived as a temporary resident for 4 years you're then qualified to secure a Residente Permanente at a conversion cost of $1,124 pesos.

There are many places to retire in Mexico that are excellent. You just have to consider what's important to you. Do you want to live near the beach or in the mountains? Do you want to live in a small community or a larger community? What kind of weather do you like? Do you need to live where English is spoken regularly? There are some surveys online that you can take that might give you a starting point.

To clarify, some people get 2 or more years when they apply for Residente Temporal. This processs must be started in your country of origin. You must renew in Mexico when that time expires. After you have had that status for 4 years, you apply for Residente Permanente.

We'veer just gone through process in Chicago.. $1750 may be a little, if u have other assets would help..I suggest u visit your nearest MX EMBASSY, It seems different rules for different states..be sure to take retirement docs with you..bank statements (6 mos) showing retirement income deposits.

We live in Cozumel, beautiful island and safe, excellent ex-pat community and good access to flights back & forth..MX is retirement heaven with many choices based on what you want..I would suggest visiting several places, ocean, mountains, cities etc..then rent for minimum of 6 mos. to confirm your choice.
