I have a storage locker full of furniture that quite honestly I just dont want to depart with. And I don't think I will be living in Seattle again. Does anyone in the Seattle area drive to Mexico once in awhile with a trailer? Would love to find a situation like that to make a couple of trips in a year to get my stuff here. I of course would pay lots of expenses etc to make it happen.

Goods can only be brought into Mexico duty-free for a fixed period following your move to Mexico....and the logistics of providing a Spanish inventory list etc.. is quite a chore. I suspect that you will discover that you will need the services of a moving company to make anything happen. One of the best is http://www.strommoving.com/

We drove a quad cab pick truck and a 16X10 cargo trailer loaded, from Denver, CO. We had a menaje de casa, that we labored over, with serial and model #s for everything electronic. I ran the whole list on google translate, and made 4 copies. When we got to the border, Loredo, they didn't care that much about the list. We had to take off the plywood covering to show the agent, but he never looked in any boxes. He never checked serial #s, etc. After 1/2 hour talking with him he said we had to get a broker, which we denied. (You do not need a broker anymore. ) He also said you can never cross without paying duty. We asked to talk to a supervisor and we did. He said we could pay $200 duty instead, (To make a long short.), which we happily did. Every situation is different. The rules change with each agent and each crossing. The official law is seldom followed. We have a pickup truck and trailer for sale now, if you are interested, and we can deliver. We are living in the Lake Chapala area.

You can only sell that pick-up and trailer in Mexico if they are Mexican plated, not if they are US or Canadian. If moving to Mexico, you may only bring in your household goods within 180 days of your move. Frankly, it is so expensive to have furniture and other goods moved, that most folks bring only what they can carry in their car and sell the rest. Everything you will need is available in Mexico. Relax and enjoy the adventure.

My husband said he will deliver the pickup and trailer to the U.S. We do not want to nationalize or sell in Mexico.

We pulled a cargo trailer and averaged about 60 miles an hour. It all depends on the load in your truck. We were at max weight. We stayed 1 night in Mexico and it took 2 days to drive. It was a lot easier to drive than we thought it would be, and we took the toll roads. We did not bring any furniture, just kitchen stuff, clothing and golf equipment. Things that are hard to replace.

There are two different camps on this topic. There are those who sell everything in the States and move down hoping to replace everything here. I say hope because, depending on what you are talking about, you may not be able to replace it but substitute something else. Or those who bring it all. As you may have guess, we brought it all. At the time we moved Strom-White was the only game in town. They are excellent although expensive and now there are a couple of others in the area that provide the same service. A local company in your area packs your things up. Be sure to tell them it is an international move so they provide the paperwork and put things in lift vans, big wooden crates. Our lists were in English. We came into Mexico ahead of the moving van and dropped off our lists to Strom-White and they did the translation and handled everything at the border. They have a warehouse in Laredo where the US company drops off your things and a Mexican company picks it up and brings it across the border. At that time you had 90 days to bring things across duty free. Your sheets have the box number and the contents of the box. They may check a box or two to make sure your list is correct or not. You can never tell what they will do. We never regretted our decision to bring it all. It is a personal decision so weigh it carefully. Kitt Vincent

We took our 2003 Ford F150 and 2010 Enclosed 6x12 trailer and moved to Mexico, with our personal belongings, furniture included. My wife made a list as bins were packed, (both in Spanish and English) and they were numbered along with the furniture. We went though Laredo at the Columbia bridge, and we only had to pay $200. and open the back of the trailer for them to see, . They did not open one bin. We were x rayed and sent on our way. It was an easy trip over the mountains, and took 2 days to get to Mazatlán, where we live. The truck and trailer are available and we will deliver to the border.

2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab with camper shell, utility trailer is 2012. Can deliver to most major cities, for a reasonable fee. The border would be best. Let me know if you would still like pictures.

We just moved to Ajijic and used Strom White moving... They did an excellent job and we had no problems... The cost was about $2 a pound which is a bit high... But considering the fact that we had 5000 lbs we could live with it. We only brought limited furniture. Locally we have not found anything comparable in quality to what we had up north... That said, Guadalajara has many furniture stores and one can have furniture custom made here (which we have chosen to do)...
