We will be retiring soon, we are looking at being in Mexico for at least 4 months. Can anyone give me some places to retire to?

There are several popular places to retire in Mexico. Lake Chapala/Ajijic has perfect weather year-round, a large ex-pat population, beauty and friendliness. There are many other places though. Here is one list.

Puerto Vallarta is fabulous. I've been here 28 months and loving it. Right on the pacific. With mountains on the south edge of town.

I agree Nelson. I love the small towns close by like san Pancho, salulita and many others that I have not gone to yet.
The Farmers market in cruz de huanacaxle is fabulous.. I have so much more to explore.

There are many places to retire to in lovely Mexico...
It depends what you may like and dislike to select a tentative area...
You like humidity, you like altitude, you like heat, you like ocean, I recommend that you begin by making a list of what you would like !!!

if you want remote, peaceful tropical living, puerto escondido or puerto angel is your place. if you want the hustle and bustle and tourism of a big, tropical city, acupulco is your place. if you want a mountain city with hills and no sidewalks, taxco is your place. if you want a city that is the 'real' mexico, pachucha will be your city. everyday is like an autumn day in the northeastern united states although it take quite awhile for its people to open up to outsiders, including big city folks from mexico city. if you like great food, puebla will be your place. if you need to take mineral baths, try ixtapa de la sal. if you don't want to see poverty and love sand dunes and are willing to pay top dollar, la paz or cabo san lucas will be your place.

It has been on the list for years. We were there a few months after it was added and felt completely safe.

Someone posted the comment that if the US had to post the cities in the US that were "unsafe" they've have more than any other country on the list. The US State Department must list these so they cannot be blamed for not warning people of the danger. It is that US mentality of blaming the government for not protecting me but not wanting to have sensible, well-run government but making it as impossible to govern.

Try MANZANILLO, Mexico. We have been here full time for 18 years without a day of regret.

Haven't seen any recommendations for the Riviera Maya and the Yucatan along the gorgeous Caribbean coast! Many options in this region, from the growing Playa Del Carmen area where many expats call home and have access to excellent services, dining, and shopping, to the relative quiet of Tulum and points south. The location is ideal for folks who want to travel between the East coast of the US and Canada and to other points in the Caribbean not to mention Belize. It's also a very safe area.

We considered the PV area because we love the Romantic Zone and the outlying areas. But our main desire was to be close to nature and the beautiful beaches and water of the Caribbean, and so we ended up in the RM after years of looking at places throughout the Carib.

Enjoy researching the different areas as we did, and good luck with your retirement!
