This is a very general question pertaining to Mexico or any international travel - is it recommended to keep your passport on you at all times, or is it smarter to keep it locked inside your hotel room safe?

Passport or at least a copy should be on your person at all times. Accidents or any emergency health info, hotel etc included. Saving time could save your life.

Make a copy if it makes you feel better. I haven't touched mine for two+ years on my last flight north

Cellphone camera and keep the photo in the camera just in case. I also keep a copy in cloud storage if I lose the phone and need to print it at a local internet cafe.

We carry our original passports when taking long trips within Mexico, and when just moving around Playa we just carry copies. Also if entering Mexico by sea or air you must have your tourist visa with you at all times.

I thought you had to have at lease a copy of both the passport and your visa when you leave home.

I always have my passport card in my billfold. The book form of my passport stays at home, except when I travel out of Mexico or I need it regarding my visa at INM or for some other specific purpose.

I never carry my passport nor my visa, except when traveling in Mexico. In the last 16 years, I have been asked for it only when traveling.
