Does anyone have any knowledge about building/buying a tiny house and putting it on our own property around Puerto Morales/ Playa del Carmen area?

Only thing I've heard of are shipping containers ...... and they are terrible.

An RV or 5th wheel are much better and finished

Living in a tin/metal anything in a place where the sun beats on it all day is not a good idea. That means any rv/camper of any kind. I have friends in Belize that tried it and is a disaster. Heat radiating in makes it a sauna. Also metal rusts a lot expecially at the oceans. Salt=rust. Concrete or wood is the only way to go. My friends tried shipping containers then building a shell around it to stop the sun from cooking them. Now they have more money in it than if they would have built originally. AND biggest room they can have is 8" because that is as wide as a container can be. You can put two together and cut out the common walls but finish construction is pretty ugly. Hard to hide the fact it was a utility unit in it's first life.

This is very useful information, common sense, and build like the people living in the area are doing.

Probably can't post a foto here but will try

If not you can see it here. The one on the beach is all that might work for me

Hello,

Metal container is not a good option in that area, to much humidity that will cause it to rust, you'll have to treated very well to prevent it from rusting and/or collecting minerals around the surface due to the high mineral content in the air. I can provide some guidance on the design of a tiny house if you're interested, and also build it if you'd like. I'm based in Guanajuato but have traveled to Playa del Carmen. I'm a US educated engineering working for a US construction company in Mexico.

Saludos
