the one method of getting doors opened to foreigners all over the world is to do something useful for the host society,-i.e.teach kids or improve the infra-structure. Anyone interested in teaching kids in Chihuahua mountains Sierra Madre,or in even in Juarez ?I have support system that can be built on for school for nurses,or teaching english to primary school kids that dont attend school for lack of classrooms. No visa necessary

Interesting. Do you know of any such opportunities in the Yucatan? Playa del Carmen specifically? If you don't have personal knowledge or information on doing this in PDC, how might I go about finding out? What agency or ppl would I need to talk with to do this in Playa. I've been writing every day, working on a book but, I'm getting to the point where I'd like to do something useful before I "check out". Thank you, in advance for any informational assistance you might be able to provide.

I also am interested in helping in whatever town I choose to live in. I am considering Xalapa, Tulum and even a village south of Puerto Vallarta, Yelapa, Jalisco. The latter asks on its town website for donations to its school. I miss work and want to help.

Please be very careful of doing anything that could even remotely be defined as “work“ in Mexico, even unpaid volunteer teaching, which once caused INM to warn me off. It can get you deported; especially if a Mexican citizen feels that you might be taking a position that a citizen might just be able to get paid to do. Just the complaint....no due process necessary.

@Mexjuan In Playa del Carmen there is this big organization that helps children stay in school and organizes volunteer activities like conversational English and other classes, It´s really cool. This is their site http://kkisproject.org/ @RVGringo You are right about the visa situation, this was originated when volunteers in Chiapas started getting involved in political activism and since then, the INM has a special visa for volunteers, I doubt that a registered organization that is doing very good for the community will have INM after their volunteers, I´ve volunteered for at least 8 NGO in this region and have asked INM if expats need to have a special permission or visa. But you are right, that is the law =)

my support system is a group of mothers and children in Juarez that I have known for 20 years so am part of the family.I prefer to stay close to new mexico because I have a non-profit (helping hearts transitional living communities of NM) here and have not found anyone to help run it.There is a school to train nurses in Juarez that is an associacion civil ,-sort of non-profit,that could be used to build a volunteer base.My real goal is to have a small farm in the mountains run as an orphanage or women's empowerment community legally in the name of a mexican citizen
