School or tutors for a child with dyslexia

My husband and I are thinking of moving to Mexico City for my career. We have family there and the career move would be good for us. We have one child in the 1st grade who has dyslexia. Can anyone suggest a school or tutors who teach children with dyslexia in Mexico City? We have a great tutor here in Atlanta who uses the Orton Gillingham multi sensory approach. This child's educational needs are the main concern with the possible move. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

The first question might be, “Is the child bilingual?“

Yep .... if you want English only that will reduce your chances to near zero

Hi. Thank you to those that have responded. My child is in first grade and speaks and understands both Spanish and English. However, he is learning to read in English and being tutored for his dyslexia in English. Considering we would come back to the states within 2 years, we do need the tutoring for reading in English. Currently he goes to a normal public school and receives tutoring in the afternoons. Thank you

I have a feeling you'll be able to work it out - especially since you are going to be there for a set time period.

I have a child with Dyslexia and know how important it is to have a great tutor with Orton Gillingham training. I just started to search google for "Mexico City Orton Gillingham". I found this document from the US State Dept: https://www.state.gov/documents/organization/176076.pdf It includes a section about schools in Mexico City and special education services. I tried to cut and paste that section, but it was formatted strangely.

Here are some of the many schools mentioned in the above document:

http://www.westhillinstitute.edu.mx/special_ed.html

https://www.asf.edu.mx/learning/sas

I would contact all of the schools in the area.

Plus, if you can find a reading specialist with OG training / certificate to tutor privately, that may be all you need for your stay.

Hope this helps!

You might try one of the online tutors. Our son works with a teacher from International Literacy Support, www.internationalls.com. While it isn't quite the same as in person tutoring. The teacher is trained in the Orton-Gillingham and works with him live through a program called Zoom. We have been please with his progress so far. Hope that helps.
