I've seen several books being sold about moving to Mexico and wondered if you all have recommendations on what's good vs. what to skip. While gather information online is great, I really like to have reference books. For example, Mexperience sells several books as pdfs. Then there's "Mexico - the Trick Is Living Here" by Julia Taylor - and I am sure there are more. Any advice would be welcome. (We are about 18 months out from a long-term visit but am researching and hoping to come for a week in May or October). Thanks, Elisabeth

We found two good books on moving to Chapala. I don't remember the exact names, but you may do well to search for a book specific to where you plan to relocate.
I think the better of the two books was called "Moving to Mexico's Lake Chapala", or something very similar to that. However, the book isn't perfect, as I discovered one error when consulting with an attorney (concerning the holder of an RP visa driving a spouse's U.S. plated car, which isn't allowed [without the spouse and his RT visa in the car]. Glad I didn't get the wrong visa which would have prevented me from driving our only car alone)..
So I suggest you also check other resources to verify what actions you will take. (The attorney in Ajijic was an excellent resource, after we had done our homework first.)

Excellent advice, I will certainly make sure I consult both the consulate and a Mexican lawyer.

we have some e books, kits and webinars, the webinar replay is the most current information. The problem with books is that information changes very fast so you can get "the feeling" and cute anecdotes out of most books. But its better to go to e books or current publications for more accurate information. I really like this blog for information on the riviera maya area Two expats living in Mexico and of course the e books on top mexico site http://www.topmexicorealestate.com/real-estate-books/?art=ebooks&web=expatexchange

My favorite book is, Magic Made in Mexico: Live your Dream...in Mexico. Author: Joanna van der Gracht De Rosado. It's a great story about the author's experience of moving to Mexico and the life she made there. My other favorite is, San Miguel De Allende: A Place in the Heart: Expatriates find themselves in Mexico by John Scherber. There's lot of other pretty good guides that I've gone through as well. You can find all these books by doing a quick search on Amazon by using...Retire in Mexico. Good luck. I've read quite a bit and it's really helped my research effort.
