I read that there is an American Society chapter in Guadalajara. I have been unable to find out about their activities names of officers or even if the group is still active.
Does any one know anything about this group? Are there other local expat groups that would be of interest to English speaking retired expats?

I believe you're referring to the American Society of Jalisco, which has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1208469089227179/

TIP: For virtually every single place in Mexico where there is an expat population established, there is a Facebook group.
