Hi all,

Let me introduce myself. I'm 38, living in Holland and my hobbies are reading, watching movies, motorcycles and I'm interested in spirituality.
For the last 15 years I worked in the IT for a utility company. I have a vocational degree in IT. Because of some major life changing events I'm looking for more freedom and happiness. I'm considering moving to Mexico. Ajijic seems like a beautiful place. I was very impressed watching the Youtube video ' U.S. citizens relocating to Mexico form unique expat community' I plan to visit the place on vacation sometime soon. I'm interested in people who can share their own experiences with me of moving to and living in Mexico. Since my journey to figure this all out just started, perhaps someone can help me figure some things out. Like : Where do I start? How to find a place to live , where can I find a job and how does citizenship or work permits work? And some do's and don'ts are also welcome. I know, lots of questions but you have to start somewhere.

The reason you probably won't get a lot of response here is because these forum are not a starting place for you journey. Those already here expect you to do some research then ask specific questions. You can try by using the "search" window as one of your tools to learn.

Before going to Mexico to live, you must visit a Mexican Consulate in your home country in order to apply for a residence visa. There will be financial qualifications and you cannot get permission to work in Mexico from the consulate. Immigration authorities in Mexico must authorize a lucrativa endorsement to your visa if you have a valid offer of employment from an employer who is registered with INM and authorized to hire foreigners. Otherwise, you may not work in Mexico. You will also need to prove the existence of your Mexican residence to INM (immigration) within 30 days of entering Mexico. So, looking online, in Spanish, may reveal some listings, but hitting the sidewalks and talking to locals is usually the best method. Meanwhile, a B&B, hotel or hostel will have to suffice. Buena suerte.
