San Miguel de Allende

Hi - I've been in Chapala for 2 weeks and am booked till the end of the month. Will do some exploring of Ajijic in my remaining time.

While I'm certainly attracted to the weather, life style, cost of living and people, I am somewhat disappointed in the food and availability of food products. While I have been to some of the ex-pat spots for more specialty items I'm still left wanting. Will continue to search.

Now whoa, before I get barraged by responses - "your in a different country - get real" or "there's more to life than food" etc. etc. Let me briefly explain.

I love food "all kinds - Latin very much" and have been professionally involved in food service for over half my life. Cooking now is my hobby/past time.

That stated, now to my topic - San Miguel de Allende. I'm planning a visit there. I understand it is larger, more populated and therefore possibly more cosmopolitan (more food options).

My trip to Chapala was about climate, cost of living and a more reasonable pace of life.

In San Miguel will I or how much will I be compromising those goals. Most specifically 'cost of living' I am essentially retired and on a fixed income.

That's my story - would appreciate insights, thoughts, suggestions and reasonable critiques.

Many thanks in advance.
