Moving to Mexico!!! ^_^

I'm a 38 y/o single male, non drinker/smoker/drug user. My pension is only 100k/yr CAD and I need to make every dollar stretch as far as possible. I do get annual tax refunds of ~20k+/yr CAD every May.
I speak zero Spanish but I have an incredible aptitude for learning when in a one-on-one environment.

Sorry for the long introduction to my situation, where is the best place to live for cheapest housing rates where I can by my first year in Mexico to become fluent enough in Spanish to move elsewhere? Also, if anyone can put me in touch with a realtor, I would love to secure a year long rental/lease of a 500+ sq.ft. (preferably with stove and easy access to highspeed internet. Unfurnished house that will allow me to have a cat. I will pay the year in advance.
I intend to live a hermitic lifestyle and play video games/watch cartoons and pursue my online investing. I really only need to go out to buy fresh food and maybe go on a food tour of local restaurants and street vendors (I'm vegetarian, but can give it up for lamb and goat yum)

Thank you for your assistance.

Not clear if you are interested in beach, mountains, Big city, small towns..if mountains, suggest Guajuanta, a beautiful mountain location in central MX, 1hr+ from San Miguel Allende, 4 hrs to Guadalajara..Beach areas suggest Quintana Roo..Happy Hunting.

taxco, the silver mining city.

pachuca, hilgado, which has weather like the month of october in the northeastern united states.

puerto escondido or puerto angel, right on the pacific.

ixtapan de la sal, fairly close to mexico city but a small, small town with an entertaining town lunatic.

I can't find any info on Guanjuata did you mean Guanajuato? If so, did you mean Guanajuato City or just the free state in general?

Maybe I missed something but going out for only veggies would seem like you could live anywhere. It would not have to be Mexico. If playing vidiot games and cartoons are your passion why move from Canada? With your income you could live most anywhere.....Some countries have a minimum age requirement to qualify for their retirement programs....like Belize for example.

right. also consider xelia or antigua, in guatemala. it's also cheaper, as well.

Quentinstyger, are you aware that you will require a residence visa in order to actually live in Mexico? Otherwise, you could only visit for up to 180 days before having to leave. You might be able to re-enter, but that is not guaranteed, although it is usually easy.
You must apply for residence visas, temporal or permanente, at the nearest Mexican consulate in your current country of residence. There will be financial income/resource requirements to be met in order to qualify for approval. Then, you have six months to enter Mexico and 30 days from entry to appear before INM immigration authorities to begin the process to complete the visa. The consulate website may show the requirements.

RVRINGO, thank you for the head's up, I qualify for a permanent residency visa from the Mexican Consulate in Leamington Ontario, Canada. Already took care of that prior to this post.

Have you considered Little LA" neighborhood in Mexico City. Seems that location would have great internet, probably. That neighborhood, as I understand, has a lot of young adults (perhaps around your age) who now live in Mexico after having grown up in the US - and they all speak excellent English. http://www.wsj.com/video/in-little-la-us-deportees-adjust-to-life-in-mexico/77540AB5-7EC5-421E-8E79-C5CF52FF7F50.html?mod=trending_now_video_4

LA neighbourhood in Mexico City sounds interesting, how's the housing prices? I don't mind the sound of the lifestyle, but I want to pay less for things than what I'm paying for here in Canada.

little l.a. in mexico? where are we, talking the la condesa area, polanco, or even del valle, which resemble an opulent suburb in new york's long island, or is it found in el tapito or iztapalapa? which specific area is it? it can't be la roma, a high classed version of the shabby chic section of la narvarte.

q, stay away from mexico city. you're from canada, aren't you, used to nice fresh air. you will have allergy problems and probably have to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist and put prescribed powder up your nose nightly, or you will feel like you have to cough up a storm even those there is no productive phlegm in your throat. better slurp on safflower or castor oil or arthritus will be exacerbated, indeed. peace and quiet is an impossibility with all of the motorcycles racing around and cars that don't have sufficient emission control. i live there for employment reasons. avoid it at all costs.

The Mexican Caribbean is a great area, plenty language schools, good internet access, cheap rents are only to be found in the nontouristic neighborhoods, but there are options here, plus you cant´ beat the beauty of the area. To get an idea on rental prices search andale.mx for more local non touristic rental places. Have fun in your search =)

Seriously. Pick a city, search for a language school, look at their housing options they usually offer home stay but if you keep reading , they usually say something like, if you would rather live independently ......
