" I am in the very early stages of considering the purchase of a property on Morocco, most probably a traditional Riad. Can anyone give me a taste of how things are in Morocco at the moment, what the long term view is, and any experiences (good and/or bad) of life over there. Kind regards Richard "

Hello Richard. Your posting interested me because I am too in the early stages of looking into the purchase of a riad in Morocco. I don't know if your intent is to buy a riad for personal use or to convert it into a business.
My intention is to convert the riad into a business. Have you come across any interesting information that you would care to share with me?

One thing I have quickly learned is that riads in good condition(move in) are getting to be quite expensive but I have seen property listed on the Internet for riads that need restoration. From what my partner tells me, labor is much cheaper in Morocco than say in Eruope or the United States (not sure where you are from).

I would certainly share my experiences with you if you wish. I am an American living in Belgium with a Moroccan partner. As a matter of fact he will be returning to Morocco very soon for the precise reason of looking into buying property there.

Anyway, good luck with your plans and maybe we can assist one another.

Hello Richard:

I posted a reply earlier but did not see it appear so I will try again.

Like you I am in the early stages of contemplating buying a riad (most probably in Marrakech) with the itnetion of turning it into a small bed and breakfast.

From what I have seen on the Internet, prices for a riad in move in condition are quite steep. However there are riads which need renovation for sale and my partner (a Moroccan) tells me that labor is much cheaper there than say Europe or the States.

I would be willing to share any information I get with you if you would like to do the same.

I don't know if you are looking for property to make a business with or just trying to find a riad for personal use but I wish you good luck just the same.

By the way, where are you from?
