Move to Maroc

Dear all,

After many wonderful visits to Morrocco over the past years, I am now looking into moving to Morrocco from Scotland , UK.
I hope to purchase a riad either in Tangiers or Marrakech and make my escape from the British weather sometime later this year.

I work through the internet almost entirely, so will not need to look for work, which is fortunate for me since my French is pretty poor (although I intend to improve!)

I wonder if anyone can help me with any advice on moving to Morrocco from the UK, specifically:

+ Morrocan emigration rules/procedures for British citizens
+ Property taxes / pitfalls
+ Reliable builders in Tangiers or Marrakech
+ Reliable internet service providers in Tangiers or Marrakech

Any advice that anyone can offer will be most gratefully received.

Thank you

Nick

I am an American who plans to buy a house in Morocco. I am looking in the Nador, Tetuan Asilah or Tangier area. My wife is Moroccan, so I plan to retire there, God willing. Have you recieved any information in you research? Most of the real estate web pages are only selling things in Marrakech or Esouria... I wonder if a non-citizen can own property in Morocco....

Nick,
For reliable ISPs in Morocco there is not much choice but there Maroc Telecom and Maroc connect. I understand you will need broadband for access to a decent spped for work reasons. They do offer that at very reliable service and reasonable prices. So don't worry about Internet access.
For taxes,I own an apartment in Casablanca and taxes are not outrageous. The government encourages invetors in real estate and taxes are not that crazy.Yet,I dont know baout buying land and building from scratch.
For builders ,I recomend you contact real astate agencies in those cities. They are mostly run by european natinals. They might be bale to give you good leads.Just run a search on google and you will run into many real aestate agencies to start from.

Good luck ..

Hello,

Yes, you can own a property in Morocco. I'm an American who now reside in So. Spain. My boyfriend and I own an apartment in Fes, Morocco which we bought 2 yrs. ago. We are now trying to dispose of it for health reasons. Maybe, you're interested. Send me an email: tweet90404@yahoo.com.
