Western women in Morocco

Hi my name is Sarah, I have been with my Moroccan partner for aprox 9 years and we have been talking about moving to Morocco in the next year or two. I have been to Morocco many times and in enjoy it however holidays and living in a place are quite different things. One of my concerns is that I will really miss having a good female support network and doing things like catching up over a glass of wine or two. Is there a network of western/modern women out there who catch up on a regular basis?

There is something in Casablanca. It's like a group of expats spouses, they hold activities and support each other etc..I forgot their name but I think you can obtain it from the American Chamber of Commerce in Casa.
Good luck with your new move.

Hi Sarah,

My names is Ursula and I m living with my Moroccan boyfriend in London, and we too are thinking of moving to Casablanca where my bf is from in the next couple of years.

I totally understand your concerns about the moving to Maroc, it s a massive commitment and I too am unsure whether I d cope without my family and friends nearby.

So where is your partner from? I ve been doing my research into whether there is a network of western women in Morocco and came across AIWC - which is an association for English speaking women of all nationalities including Moroccans. There s also the Churchill Club which is an English speaking social club and they have an amateur drama group and there are themed dinners every month as well as other activites. Perhaps you could look at the US Embassy in Rabat, and the consulate in Casablanca websites. I mean, I can t help but think these are organisations for 50+ yr old expats and not geared towards 25yr olds like me. I must say, I ve my reservations about going, but then again, I d hate myself it if I did nt give it a go.

I also think its hard to contemplate making the move, especially if you re an independent person like me, who needs to live their own life as well as their partners. I often do my own thing and hang out with friends as well as chill out with my bf. But the thought of being a stay at home wife to be would kill me, hence why I ve made inroads as to how to get involved in charitable organisations, teaching at the American Schools etc.

Pls do get in touch and lets talk more. My email address is: urshill@yahoo.com mobile no: 0044 7940716462

Hope this message finds you soon. It seems as though we re in the same boat.

Take care

Ursula

Hello Sarah,

My name is Stacy, I will be moving to Casa this next June.
We have the same concerns. I have been married to my Moroccan husband for 13 years. I have spent many summers in Morocco, But your right about living and visiting. After having my husbands family around all the time, I will need someone to drink with.(just kidding) will you live in Casa? do you have children?

please lets keep in touch.
Stacy.
