Hi,
My boyfriend and I just moved to Fez. We were thinking of hiring someone to clean our apartment and maybe cook twice a week. Does anyone happen to have any contacts or know how much this usually costs?
Thank you,
Kaja

Hi, I lived in Morocco for 5 years and had a wonderful housekeeper from Fez. After I left (I was in Casablanca then Tangiers), she moved back home. She is now a mother and NOT looking for full time work, but maybe part time work would suit her. She is by far the best housekeeper I have ever had, very clean, thorough and honest. If you would like more information, please contact me privately. Thank you, Icaru

My wife does our own cleaning because the local ladies tend to flood the house, thereby flushing the house like it was/is a toilet. So unless your furniture is suspended, electrical connections/apparatus is above floor level by at least two feet, you'll need to train them yourself. Otherwise get a pair of wellington boots and lots of plastic bags. Oh... towels too.

Hi there,
A quick word of advice is to not hire just anyone, try to hire someone through someone that you know. If you like I can recommend someone who has been within my family for a long time. She is well experienced in household duties. If you are interested please email me privately for her details.

Hi There, I would think it would be very difficult to find an Indian maid here- unless you can find one who is married to a Moroccan & therefore has permanent residency status. Given that 50% of its own population is unemployed, however, there is no way the authorities here would be wanting to issue visas for foreign women to come into the country, especially for jobs like this.
If you feel you need to do this for cultural reasons, then the best way would be via any significant Indian community in Casa: maybe via a large mosque if you are a moslem?
The other alternative would be to advertise in a daily newspaper or the moroccan equivalent to Ebay called Avito, where there is a facility to limit your ad to just the Casa area.

In Marrakech the going rate for a "femme de menage" is 2000 dhms a month- always paid in cash....

In nearby Meknes you can get a p/t cleaner/cook easily. I would expect the same in Fez too. There are a lot of single Mums & widowed/divorced women looking for extra cash. Best ask your neighbours, or network around people you know / can communicate with. That way, they may be able to vouch for the trustworthiness of the applicant (very important of course). Pay for what you want is not high.. I reckon about 40 or 50 dirhams per session tops.
