" I am considering moving to Spain, Madrid most likely. Is there anyone here who can offer advice or tips. I expect stay for more than a year. I''m currently seeking a post-doctoral position, so I expect the employment aspect of it to work itself out, but I haven''t a clue about any other aspects of it. Thanks in advancefor any advice you can offer. kevin "

" Kevin, I can''t really help you, per se. You may want to try and get hold of a book entitled something like ""Living and Working in Spain and Portugal"" through an Internet search. It''s published by an English company. My copy is in storage in Canada, unfortunately, and since I am currently based in Mongolia, I won''t be of much help to you. You could also try calling around to the libraries and book stores in the Triangle area. Incidentally, my family and I lived in Durham near Duke from December ''99 to mid-May. Love the area but I bet the heat and humidity is excruciating right now. Good luck. "

" Hi Marc- I am moving to Madrid on November 1st and although I have a place to stay for a couple months- I would like to get my own place or maybe even rent a room from someone after that. I plan on staying for at least a year- I''m a professional, bilingual female in my mid twenties and was wondering if you could recommend a website or agency that could help me find affordable housing or at least a decent roomate! Any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it! -Thanks! -Rocio "

" Hello Kevin, if you want to move to Spain, get in touch with their embassy. Also, there should be some discussion forums ofSpanishh people that are expatriates in the US. Might be worth a try, especially if you speak Spanish. Laura p.. unless you move to Mad ridd for personal reasons, try Barcelona first. Itsso much better there...:)) "

" It''s not all that easy to go from the U.S. to one of the EU countries, where citizens of other EU countries have priority for jobs. You could check the various web sites for overseas jobs, such as www.monster.com/ Or, like a number of others, you could go and hope to work under the table, teaching English or performing some service for other expats. Good luck! "
