Great Wall china

We do not want to stay in Beijing but want to stay at a place further down from Badaling where most tourists see the great wall as well as experience e heavy crowds and smog from the city.
Can anyone recommend a place to see the wall an hour or so out from Beijing by train where we could still come in to see the forbidden city? Thank you
