i have been living in surigao city for 5 months, yes i read many posts regarding living expenses, im renting a 2 apartment very nice and 4 min walk to gaisano, all up with rent and water electricity food and visa per month ect no dining out its cost me 27,000 pesos about $670 australian dollar, add dining out 4 times a week for 2= additional 2000 pesos so yes if u have a income its doable here lovely people, but yes its hot and hard to acclimatise, i love it here only advise i can give is buyer beware!!! if a product fails you dont expect a refund or replacement basic items, reputable stores will honor faulty products.
i have a girl friend tho im not sure what angle she is coming from, one thing some phillo girls are hard to trust, they will tell you what you want to hear.
I moved here because i was sick of Australian they have the best attitudes here poor but happy as where other countries are wealthy and miserably unhappy with life, no need for alcohol or drugs here take in the beauty and you will a long happy life, good luck to newcomers

Nice post. I live in the caribbean where the climate is perfect year round with low humidity....Margarita Island....I was worried about the heat and humidity there.
Best wishes Alan

Thanks for the great post it was very helpful. Great information. You just proved that I can live in the Philippines for just under a 1000. USA dollars per month. My only question now is how can I stay permanently without having to leave the country? What visa do I need for that?
