Moving To Africa

My girlfriend and I are trying to move to Africa. We are not trying to find ourselves or looking for adventure, we simply would like to start life in a different place. We have both graduated from The Community College of Philadelphia, so we both have degrees in English. I have a certificate in writing and she has extensive tutoring experience. I am really interested in teaching younger children, and working with women. I see Africa as a place this is often dismissed and looked over because people are often opposed to what they do not understand. I feel like I could really help a lot of people who do not have the same opportunities as westerners. I understand that all these humanitarian endeavors could be accomplished in the United States, but I don't see why I should not live in Africa. I have worked with children before at an after school program and I know I would to teach and continue writing. I have worked with magazines and have been published but I know that I would just help children learn to read and write themselves.

We would like to know which counties we could make decent wages and live comfortably. We are trying to move within a year.

We are both in our early twenties.

Our family began and continue to support an orphanage in Mozambique. it's home to over 50 kids and provides food, shelter, school and loving care givers. I would recommend determining what your income needs are. As you know, wages in Africa are going to be significantly lower than the U.S.; however, the cost of living is minimal and you can most likely live on-site. Besides stability of the area you decide, I would also advise considering availability of healthcare, transportation to and from an airport. Most of Africa doesn't have plumbing or dependable / consistent electricity. Internet and telecommunications are good though. You can buy a cell phone and call back to the U.S. for a few cents a minute. i hope this helps and I wish you good luck. Africa is a big and great continent and you should be able to find a home and group of people to serve and love without a problem. - Safe Travels, Adam
