Expat Advice PLEASE!

Currently live in south Texas, but have taken many trips to the Caribbean and hope to move there permanently in the near future. Although we have not decided on any one locale at this time, I'm sure the tasks involved in relocating to another country are the same for any expat. My question is, if one goes abroad for a period of time (weeks to months) to visit, explore, learn, etc, what is the procedure for leaving everything connected to you behind (i.e. home, automobile, financial arrangements, etc)? Any tips are greatly appreciated! You can reply on this message board or send me an email ([email protected])
THANKS!
