Which country do you think would be great to live and buy a property in. I think Colombia would be a great choice, what do you all think?

Between this and your other post on where to 'spend your last few days', I am really left wondering about whether you are just a very sloppy writer or whether what you write actually indicates how you are viewing your future.

I don't mean to be mean or rude at all helen but if they do indicate how you are thinking, I suggest you take a couple of big steps back and reconsider the whole thing.

If someone asked you which man should I marry because the one I pick will be the one I am stuck with till I die, what would you say to them? Or how about, which house should I buy as my first house because I will be stuck with it till I die and I don't want to get it wrong. What would you say to that?

If what you have written truly reflects how you are thinking, there is no difference in what you are asking. That is entirely the wrong way to look at retirement.

Retirement is like any other major change in your life. It's something significant but it isn't something you have to get right because you are stuck with it forever. It is simply the beginning of a new chapter in live, it is not the LAST chapter. If you think of life as a book with each year being a new chapter, retirement can be quite a way away from the last chapter. Those 'last few days' may last for 20 years or more. Do you really think picking a place to live in retirement should be a decision you see as being stuck with for those 20 years?

I look at where to live in retirement as simply being a question of where to live NEXT. I may stay somewhere for only a few months or a few years or I may stay for a decade. Who knows, I certainly don't. If you take that view of 'where to live next', it is an entirely different question.

There is no right or wrong answer and it is not a life or death decision that you are stuck with. If a place appeals to you and you can legally live there, then give it a try and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out as you had expected, then there is no problem. You just move on to the 'next' place that interests you.

The Old Pro is right, so think in terms of renting, Helen. Don’t be so quick to pursue a purchase in South America.

As for Colombia, there are many different types of areas -- highlands, coastal, coffee triangle, big cities, small towns. It’s not clear what you based your opinion on.

I doubt you can buy realestate in Cuba.
Columbia is kidnap central.Cuba looks too third world, not much of an economy, other than nickle mine.

Chile is cosmopolitan, but kind of pricey.
Belize was a tax haven.Don't know if that's still the case.Argentina would be nice except total government mismanagement .Ecuador might be worth looking into.I'm looking as the US is insolvent and when debt went over yearly GDP it's starting to look
as they might end up like Greece.

Noone believes the US govteconomic stats.
they're basing their economy on facebook, netflix ans
smart phones :) good luck
