Moving From the US

I have recently moved from Texas to Australia and the move, or rather the packing was a nightmare. I just want to warn anyone else looking for movers/packers. I checked this company, they had been operating for 100 yrs or so, were a member of all the right places and yes they were used to international moves. All was well until the day. There was only one packer out of three that had done international packs. The 3rd member was actually out of the office and no idea on what he was doing. That night I realised I had left a hairdryer in a bathroom and it had been packed. I opened the box hoping it was on top. What I saw disgusted me. Nothing was wrapped, the contents of my vanity unit looked like it had been thrown in a box, including bottles. I repacked the box myself and sent a scathing email to the company. The next day the general manager was out at my house. Yes, the guy they had sent out was their operation manager and shouldn't have been there helping. What else had been packed in this fashion. When it came time to wrapping the furniture, it was just wrapped with double paper. I questioned it and said it wasn't enough. Nothing was done further. I will say at this point that I have moved many times internationally and used to how things should be packed for this kind of move - never had I seen anything like this before. I was fearful of when my container arrived at the damage. Yes there was damage and I'm not trying to sort it out. Not only that, boxes were mis-marked, or were not itemised on the inventory or double numbered. Small items have disappeared, hinges out of screens, inserts out of glass candles, wall hangers and I'm sure there is more when I take more time. Be wary of the company you choose for your move and make sure you go by a recommendation of someone that has used them. This company is through the US but I can only speak for the Dallas area. In my opinion, they do not have a clue how an international move should be done. I was not even notified when the shipment had left Dallas and was ready for loading in LA, I had to chase this myself as I am currently doing to just get the insurance papers which were never forwarded.

The company in question is Johnson Storage and Moving.
