Hello - I want you to know that New Jersey is not close to Long Island City, NY. LIC is in Queens. My 2 young adult daughters live together in the Bushwick part of Brooklyn which is close to Queens. And rent is reasonable. They both work in lower Manhattan. Bushwick is convenient to both Queens and Manhattan. I don't know where you are from but their neighborhood is fairly quiet and mostly families from Latin America and Caribbean regions. Queens itself is a great borough to live in - some great food and family neighborhoods. I am wondering why you would try to commute from New Jersey. because the traffic is congested; and really going to have an impact on getting to and from work in LIC. There are many cute towns on Long Island, NY too.
I don't mean to intrude on your decision. Best of luck. I am from NY and I love the city and miss living up there. Regards, Pia

I can agree with the others - living in NJ and driving to Long Island daily is a daunting task. I did it every day for 5 months. Can be done if you leave at 4am or after 11 at night. If you consider living on Long Island, specifically in Nassau County or Queens County, I would be more than happy to help you find a home. The Suburbs of NYC are serene and the best part is that it only 30 minutes on less on the commuter train (Metro North) to Grand Central.
Consider moving to lower Westchester, depending on your family's needs, Scarsdale, Hartsdale, White Plains, Yonkers, Bronxville, Mt.Vernon and New Rochelle great places to live.
Born and raised in the borough of Brooklyn, and now living in Westchester I have experience with both. I'm a local Realtor with Keller Williams Realty in Westchester. Contact me for more information at ViolaT@kw.com

I agree with Vy Tali. I believe you will find something to meet your needs; and be better situated.
There are many charming options and more public transportation options - just my opinion.
Good luck. Pia Louise
