Getting Visa and buying property

Dear all nepal experts

I am residing in China but has this great idea to go to Nepal to settle down. Have been there on 2 occassions and really love the country.

Thinking of getting a land in Phokara but has read about the law that only Neplalis could acquire them legally. Is it 'safe' to lease a land then? Any law that safeguard the tenant?

Also, if I am single and would like to live there, what kind of visa should I get? Do I work for somebody or how diffcult is it for me to start a company on my own. If I have a company, can the company buy land under its name then?

Please advise. Much appreciated.

There are a few types of visas, not all require that you have a Nepali partner.

It is possible to get marriage visas, business visas, and volunteer visas. The only one which would allow you to own property is a business visa-sole ownership is possibe.

Take my advice, please, and never lease. I speak from experience after 14 years in Nepal. In fact, I have had such a bad experience leasing in Nepal, it is the very reason why I closed my business here. On the other hand, in view of my advanced age and new visa requirement according to which I AM COMMITTED TO BE A NON WORKING PERSON here in Nepal for the rest of my life, I am quite open and willing to talk to you, if you so desire, about the possibility of selling the shares OF THE HOLDING OR MANAGEMENT COMPANY
which I still have as a foreigner and can sell, quite legally, to another foreigner, who could be you, if you are interested. All I can tell you is that it would be a lot easier to acquire my controlling interest in an EXISTING COMPANY rather than create your own, and you will also save a lot of hassles and costs, legal and otherwise, too. After that you can buy land anywhere in Nepal, and/or create a resort, build a hotel, buy out an existing guesthouse, or a home for yourself in Pokhara if you wish.
because I am not looking to make a profit, the price of my shares are at PAR VALUE which is the same as in 2001 when I created the company. Paid in capital is 7,5 million nrs or the equivalent in US$ or about 70.000 euros currently (12/12) Think about it and let me know.
