Kathy, I don't yet have any info for you but my fiance is from Nepal and I'll ask him. I am considering moving to Nepla but I was wondering about health insurance for all of us. No one mentions it on any forums and all the plans I found have lifetime limits! Anyway, I've been on this forum about 3 weeks now and seems pretty dead. Maybe we can revive it! :) Sherry

Kathy- I was just in KTM for a few months and set up an apartment there. Everything you need can be purchased at the Bhat Butani in Kathmandu. Its a fixed price department store that has household items, clothes, etc. There are plenty of other stores, too, if you want to shop around. There are a few good sections to live in. My sister is still living there in Mitra Park and had help from a local contact to find her apartment. When are you moving? I would be glad to give you some contacts there to get you started.

Hi Kathy,
Yes, you should be able to find decent furniture, kitchenware and electronics in KTM. What would be hard to get is the electricity to run your electronic goods.
I happened to stumble upon a good furniture store in Swoyambhu/Ringroad the other day. Mostly Chinese goods, but I was surprised at the quality and variety of selection. They also deliver for free apparently. If you need the name of the store, pls let me know and I'll make a point to note it down next time I'm around there.
For kitchenware, I would suggest the new BhatBhateni store in RingRoad (next to Maharajgunj). They have a wide selection and prices are decent as well.
For electronics, depending on what you need exactly, you can try the "China Market" north of New Road or New Road itself for brand name goods.
For residence, there are many decent places around town. Depends on what you want I guess. I live in Swoyambhu and it is very close to the city and relatively less crowded. South of the city has nice views of the mountains, but may not be as accessible. You could consider renting in "community housings" where many UN workers live or get adventurous and rent complete homes. Let me know if you need more info. I can make some recommendations for you.
Cheers,
Bik.

Bik, You seem knowledgeable about real estate.... Can you recommend a particular realtor? I'm looking at buying or renting in the KTM Valley (but up in the hills beyond Sundrajal or Nagarkot, when I move there. I'm hoping to setup a small B&B/lodge. Do you know anything about the rules on doing such things, or anyone, like a recommendable lawyer/legal secretary who could help sort that out? It's with the intention of finding a village on those hills where some locals WANT to setup a trekking lodge, but haven't had the money. I'd do it as an investor with a co-op style organization, so that I those living there permanently get the main benefit. Do you know of anyone who has done something like that, or any trekking company that might be seeking investors for such a thing?
