Work visas for volunteers

I'm planning to bring my family to Nepal and work as a volunteer, most likely for one of the many little local NGOs. Is it really hard or easy for them to arrange a work visa for me (and thus for my family)? Who is good at such things? Who can help? Or is it a real hassle? Should I instead sign up as a student at the university, and do a research project that is based on NGO service? I'm actually in my 40s, so I assume they won't accept me at the immigration office as a 'student'. Or can one actually keep extending the tourist visas beyond the time they say in the official literature (6 months per calendar year max).?

Yes, as an expat I could not purchase the land on my own. I purchased it but it in my sweethearts name. He is a Nepali man. Our plan is to be married in two years, after I have accomplished a few things in my life. I travel to Nepal on my vacations. I gave him the money cash and we went to the realtors and he signed the paperwork. Very easy process. Hassle-free. SMILE.. My next task is to build a home on this lot. I received word from the Embassy in KTM about a possible job, this is what I was wishing for. GOD willing I will be able to get a job there and then I can finish this contract work and have a normal 8-5 job. The government provides housing and vehicle, so the land in Pokhara could be for weekends, holidays and festival times. I have a plan but we will see. Please pray for me...
