Hi all,

I'd like to introduce myself and welcome any friends or opportunities that may arise from this post. My name is Tracy, I am moving to Nepal in November '09 to work at a NPO for 6 months. I'm traveling alone and would love to find a friend! Write me an email or drop a line and say hello!

Namaste,
Tracy

Hello, I'm Trent and currently living in Costa Rica, and was considering moving to Nepal, most people in Costa rica my age live here on Tourist Visas and leave the country every 90 days for 3 days and come back, I was reading on the Nepal page that you can pay for you visa and was wondering is this how most expats live there or do they get residency somehow?

Can I ask you how you found that job with the NPO? Looking to find a job in Nepal so that I can move there...any advice?

Hi I'm an American Master's student moving to Nepal from July-December. I'm looking for an apartment to rent (or a bedroom). Any advice on a good website or friends who are looking to rent/share an apartment with an American expat?

Hello Tracy,

I would also like to know how you found a job with NPO. I have the website to the U.S. EMBASSY in Nepal as one of my "favorities" so that I can log on right away. I have been trying to find work in Nepal for a year now. I would like to get on with the Embassy, but anything that can help me get my foot in the door is great. I have been to Nepal several times on holidays and love each time I go. I am an American working in Iraq and have many friends that live there, but you know that I met ALL OF THEM while working in Iraq as well. The majority of them are there and are planning on coming back to Iraq, Afghanistan, Malyasia or Dubai to work. I love the people and the country itself. If you have a link I can go to and check it out I would be most grateful.

YOU ARE SO LUCKY....SMILE.....

Hey randomname,

I'm also a grad student here in Nepal for a while, also from the US, and looking for a place to live as well - wondering if you have had any luck in your search? I am not here for a very long time, just until August, and I've been staying in a guest house but am looking around for an apartment for the rest of my time if I can find one. If you're still looking for roommates, or just have suggestions, that would be great!

Working in Nepal s possible but not easy. There are few jobs available for foreigners because the employer must show why a Nepalese can not do the job. The process includes multiple news paper notices offering the job to everyone followed up with a report to the government that they could not find a qualified Nepali. Teaching English is always an option. Teaching IT is possible then freelance on the side for extra money. In the end you will find wages are very low and hard to live on. Most good paying jobs will pay $150-$250 per month. Starting a business is costly and takes time. It can be frustrating going through the process. I have a computer training business already approved that I can sell or partner. The minimum investment for a new business is now set at $50,000. My computer training business was registered before the change so the minimum is only $20,000.This is a fast way to get a business visa and be able to do IT training classes and generate an income. I'm open to ideas. FYI..minimum investment is the amount of money invested into the business and Nepal. This does not mean the actual start up costs of a business. I hope this helps
