I would like to move to Nepal within a few months. My concern is I've never done something like this before and do not know where to begin. I still have a job, an apt and car. Where do I begin?? Help:(

Hi, I too am considering a move to Nepal, but not anytime soon, due to physical dangers existing currently, especially to non-Nepalis. You did the right thing by asking on this board. It's been very hard to find other prospective expats to Nepal. I read there are 3,000 expats in Nepal. I assume most are gov't workers there. Most of what I found actually was right here in this forum, but the useful posts are very old -- no one here seems to come back regularly.
I noticed you didn't give a reason for moving to a place like Nepal. If it's to teach English, for example, you can do extra research on that, which can possibly provide somewhat of a support system. If you know anyone living there, that too is another example of a support system. My move would be purely to be with my partner, who is from Nepal. I'm particularly concerned about risks from such a poor country, which is so different from the USA -- I read horror stories about missionaries and others from outside Nepal being wrongly accused and put in prison, often for years. It seems the rights of the people are not yet being well-enforced. I advise getting in touch with some Nepali people who seem nice, and get as friendly with them as possible, even if you can't get beyond online contact. Another thing that concerns me as someone with good medical coverage is the quality of health care there. I read Norvic Hospital is the best in Nepal. Seems the richest people use that hospital. Avoidance of infectious diseases is something I don't yet know much about. Dengue fever is very prevalent in warmer climates, supposedly with no immunization. You could research this. Just try to take the time to prepare for the move, making "no seriously negative surprises" one of your goals. Good luck.

Hi there,

to begin with and to get the right assistance and ideas you can tell what your plans exactly are . What kind of work you would like to do, what is your professional background and what you are seeking in Nepal.
Start with telling about your idea to move to Nepal.
Maybe then you could write these to info@hrdsnrescue.org.np for direct exchange with us.

Grandpayeti, why the heck are you giving wrong information to the people. There is no country in the world where problem doesn't occurred, intimidation, torture, extortion are prevailed many countries more than in Nepal.. still the place is not that horrific as you have explained because I am Nepali and I live here.
