Hello,

I am a nurse in Portland, OR looking for a volunteer/work oppuertunity in Nepal. Paid work is preferable, but I am have accepted the fact that I will probably have to do pay-to-play because I don't have expereince yet.

There are a lot of places working in Nepal, can someone recommend a good orginization? So far, I have found http://www.volunteernepal.com/, Volunteer Abroad (uvolunteer), and many others. Is there one that it "better" (in that the majority of the fees go to the people?)

Thanks for your help,

Kim

Tilganga Eye Hospital is good and I read in the paper they were looking for people. I think they were paid positions. Tilganga is near the airport if you didn't know. I am from Portland too..say hi to the Rose City for me

Look up the adresses of hospitals in Nepal and send your cv and application for job / volunteer directly to them. Some can give you free accommodation. I wouldn't opt for a organisation who arrange volunteering work for you. Since they do charge you to volunteer. No idea why on earth there are people in this world that want to pay to do volunteer work. But there seem to be lot who do. Though some have a great time, some are very disappointed. I would definitely contact the hospitals myself. See Wikipedia for a list with hospitals in nepal.

Whatever you choose to do, I would advise that you don't go through an organisation called Internship Nepal. The accomodation is not up to scratch and the money does not end up going to the community it goes to the owners. I had a bad experience with them and I wouldn't want others to go through the same thing.

All the best with your enquiries!
