I am a 50 year male and will be spending a couple of months in Nepal volunteering. Kathmandu & Pokhara. I'm wishing to exchange contact info with anybody already living in Nepal, coming from North America (Canada) or elsewhere abroad. I'm also interested making connections regarding accommodations in both cities. Preferably private, one bedroom apartments. Based on my experience after my volunteer work a full move to Nepal is very possible.
Does anybody know of other Nepal related chat boards?
Thanks all!

Sir,Namaste! I am living and working in Pokhara. I may be able to help you with finding an apartment. I know a number of reliable Nepalese people who rent out apartments at Lake Side. Just let me know your required time and I will inquire formally with no strings attached. Furthermore it may be helpful if you reveal what kind of volunteer works you would like to do.
kind regards Jit Magar

I have just opened a small guest house behind the airport near the Pepsi factory. This area is safer and quieter than the Thamel area. There are two private rooms available now. There is a living room, balcony. New beds and bedding. This is a safer area with ministry officials and polce as neighbors. The compound wall, exterior locks and interior gate privided total security. Each room also locks for more privacy and security. Drinking water is provided as well as a hot shower 24 hrs a day thanks to the gas water heater shower.Water supply is good and prices are reasonable. Contact me if you need something more private and secure than a hotel. The bus lines are very close as are taxis.

@jbmagar
namaste, thank you for your response. I had a look at your website. Very nice. Coincidentally, I have been a Master Mountain Guide in Canada and the USA for over 12 years. My passions are training dogs and horses..... My plan is to arrive in Kathmandu during the last two weeks of January 2012 and to stay for up to three months. Then returning to Canada for a while and coming back to Nepal at the end of 2012. Do you know if I can split my 150 day tourist visa in two portions in one year? Or do I need to return on a different Visa, such as a student or business visa?
My volunteer work wish would be to help out at a homeless shelter or in a monastery. I am a practising Western Mahayana Buddhist (Novice) with much to learn. I also wish to learn Nepalese and become a translator from Nepalese to English, German and French. I already speak these three language.
I have travelled the world,... but have never been to Nepal or Asia. I feel though as if I am being called upon.
Thank you for your time
Friendly greetings
Mike

@CT1000 Namaste,
thank you for your information. Do you have any pictures of these accommodations? And are you talking about Kathmandu or Pokhara?
Friendly greetings
Mike

I will have pictures available soon. My guest house has just opened and I am still working on details. Send me a private message and I can email pictures to you directly. My goal is to provide long term housing for volunteers. I remember the things that were difficult when I came to Nepal and plan to help make this easier for others.I don't think I mentioned before that there is a kitchen available for guests to use.

hello Mike,
nice to know about your work as mountain guide and animal trainer. When you are in Nepal feel free for a visit at our academy. Maybe you can run a training week with our guys and dogs if you have some ideas about something that they would like to learn from you. Otherwise just come as an observer. We have a German trainer volunteer from January till March. About visa: I am not sure but there is also a tourist visa model that features multiple entry. Maximum Visa time inside the same year can be taken in portions indeed. You should ask a Nepalese Consulate or Embassy about this. Visa rules and costs are often changing here without further public notice. Do you know already a Nepalese monastery of the Mahayana Tradition? I have some friends in Boudhanath (Kathmandu) who may be able to help you to get in contact with Kylong Samthen Ling. They may have volunteer program. Also the Organization Rokpa Foundation in Boudha would be interesting. I believe that Rokpa is a Swiss foundation but I am not sure. They have a free meal kitchen project for the poor.

@jbmagar,
namaste,
sounds all very exciting and interesting. I had a look at your SAR website. Awesome!
I have already made contact with ROKPA, but have not heard back yet. They seem to be a great organization.
I do not know about Kylong Samthen Ling. But would gladly learn more.
Friendly greetings
M

hi mike
I am from Britain but I am a Nepalese. I just wished to give you some advice based upon my recent experience. If you dont know the reality out there you will be in susceptible position. 1. There is no strong and easy legal environment in dealing with tenancy issues. 2. Photos sometime doesn't tell the reality. Last month I had to visit kathmandu, and took a flat in rent relying upon the photos and information given. Things were not totally false but depend how you interpret them. I could not sleep in that particular house/locality because of a lot of dogs barking in the neighbourhood and the sounds produced by trucks coming in the night time. In certain area, trucks could only enter in the night time. I have not had such experiences while i used to live in Nepal. Also need to consider about water, gas and electricity issues.
