Hello. My girlfriend and I are moving to Tauranga next month. We are wondering if we should bring our computer from the States to NZ. We have heard that voltage regulators are available in NZ. We would like to know of anyone who has had experience using these things. Good? Bad? Any information you might have is greatly appreciated. See you soon!

" Hi, I grew up in Tauranga for almost 20 years, it''s a lovely place. The only downsides are that there are lots of bad drivers (due to the majority of the population there being over 60 years) and lots of rich stuck-up people who think they are better than everyone else and that the place gets taken over by all the tourists in the summer. I have had friends who have brought computers etc from the US and it has been a bit of a headache for them although they still get the computer to go o.k. but the transformer is awkward, heavy and takes up a bit of space. If you want to know the price for a transformer I suggest you go to www.dse.co.nz as they would sell them there. Alternatively to buy a computer here would set you back around NZ$2000, unless you wanted something more ""grunty"", at which case up to NZ$3000. Sorry I can''t offer too much advice on the transformer. Let me know if you need any other info. "

" Look on the back of your computer, near the power cord. Most computers have a switch. It will be in the 110 position now. The other position is 220v. So all you would need is a new cord. Similarly, most monitors will auto-switch between the two voltages. Check the label on the back for voltage and frequency. New Zealand is 220v 50Hz. If your computer does not have a switch, take it to a local shop where they can install a dual-voltage power supply. "
