Dear All,
I hit a small snag while getting my documents ready for the work visa to NZ. Hope someone can help out.

I previously stayed in the US for 7 years. According to the NZ regulations, I need a police certificate to vouch for good character in a place I've stayed at for more than 5 years. So the suggestion was to get one from the FBI. But the FBI takes 5-6 weeks to process, which is a bit long, plus there is a finger-printing procedure.

Just wanted to know if there's any way around it or I just need to suck it up and hope for the best? If yes, how to go about getting the fingerprint thing taken care of?

Perhaps things have changed since I got my Work Visa in 2003 but at that time they only needed the proof of good character "FBI report" for residency visas not work visas. If they do require you present a proof of good character from the US I don't know any alternative for the FBI report. Yes, it takes a long time and yes, you have to get a US fingerprint card and be fingerprinted by the NZ police to send to the FBI for proof. I had to do that and don't know of any short-cut. Sorry but good luck. I'm sure you will love NZ, it's worth the work.

If you lived in one area, can't you get a report from the local police or sheriff? From what you said it doesn't sound like FBI is required.
