What country are you living in now? When are you planning on coming? Best to look at both countries web sites first then see if you still have questions. Local libraries can help with this. Cheers, (American University teacher, late 60's living in NZ have travelled to Australia a number of times.)

For cost of living in NZ and Australia www.numbeo.com
Oz visas www.immi.gov.au In Oz you will have to have your own medical insurance cover. Oz in general is expensive to live in. Country towns are cheaper than the big cities. You can buy a car without any problems. Getting your dogs here or to NZ will be costly.
NZ visas www.immigration.govt.nz.
