I am moving to Oslo to live with a friend. I won''t be working and want to travel around a bit. How long can I stay legally in Norway? Any helpful hints would be appreciated. Is there an expatriate American group I can contact in Oslo? pamgil@aol.com

" Hi Pam, You can find the American Women''s Club of Oslo at http://www.awcoslo.org/. You should be able to find all kinds of information there about moving to Norway. If you don''t find something on the site, you can always send an e-mail to one of the members. Good luck! Becky Molde, Norway "

" It is to my knowledge that you are allowed to visit Norway for 3 months before needing a residence permit. As said by Becky, the American Women''s Club has a great web site at www.awcoslo.org Also I would take a look at www.accn.no (American Coordinating Council). The council brings together 22 member organizations. The American Women''s Club is just one of 22 other organizations. The ACCN is also responsible for putting on a huge 4th of July festival in Oslo every year, which will be held on July 1, 2001 at Frogner Park. Since it is the 225th celebration, the 4th of July will be extra special this year and we plan to have about 20,000 people at the event. Hope this information helped and please feel free to contact me if you need more info! Greta greta_pettersen@hotmail.com "

" Greta and Becky, Thanks for your replies. I have checked out the sites you both suggested and found them most helpful. Perhaps we will meet once I am in Oslo. Happy holiday season to you both! Best Regards, Pam Gilbert "

" The ""American Church"" in Oslo has English masses and the people are quite nice (not religous fanatics). Stop by on any Sunday 10:00am mass and go to the basement (if you do not wish to attend the mass) and socialize with other Americans. On any given Sunday there is about 50 - 75 Americans with kids there running around eating waffles and being happy. "
