Moving to Norway- without Spouse?

New Topic Newest First

Hi everyone,
I'm a UK national since birth and I am married to a turkish man who is still living in Turkey. We have planned that we want to live in Norway.
Do I have any restrictions as a Brit to live and work in Norway??
I understand as a turkish citizen he has restrictions to living in Norway however what would be the requirements for me to sponsor him as my spouse? Is it possible?

Thanks

Hi, firstly you do have the rights of moving freely within the EU union, but you would have to have at least a full years viable income in Norway in order to prove able to support your spouse, which is just one of the requirements. I also think (although not positive) that you must obtain your permanent residence visa as well.It may require just a residence visa for family reunification, but I am not too sure when dealing with 2 separate countries. You can find the requirements by going to the UDI site, and you can set the language preference. http://www.udi.no/

Hi there, thanks for your reply. Regarding the 1 years income to support my spouse- do you think maybe it would be easier and quicker to apply for a residence card rather than the family immigration visa in that case? Also his brother lives and works there so do you know if it's possible that his brother could sponsor him?
Thanks!

OK I am not absolutely sure about this, but Turkey is part of the EU as well (something I didn't really know), so I think you both would be able to apply together. So I believe you are both able to move here freely, but will have to be approved to stay. And no his brother would not be able to sponsor either
of you, I can't even sponsor my own son to come here because he is long over 18. Family unification only includes spouses, children under 18 (also step children and adoptees) and possibly aging parents if you were needed to care for them.
