Norweigan-American Planning to Return to Norway

I am an American of unbroken Norweigan descent in the male line. We have been in America for some time, but up until my father's generation we still spoke the language in the home. It is a longstanding goal of mine to return to Norway; I am taking steps to learn the language and anticipate being ready to transition to Norway over the next four to five years. However, I am just now starting to research the exact processes needed to immigrate to Norway.

I was curious to know if a Norweigan last name could help me in my application, and if so, how that would work out. I expect it doesn't make a difference except to me personally, but I wanted to double-check to make sure of that.

It's great that you wish to return to Norway, but as far as I know, you have no more advantages than anyone else by having a Norsk name. And there are only 3 ways for you to immigrate just like anyone else, and that is by engagement visa, work visa and family reunification, or you could always apply for a student visa but that won't get you approved to stay here.

Just remember, no matter which wy you choose, it will be a long process and will be no guarantees you will be approved for a permanent residence visa, once here. The main thing is to have all your proper paperwork in order, as just one small mistake can hold one up for many months. I wish you luck.
