Aalesund?

Hi there,

I'm potentially moving to Aalesund as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 small kids) to work. I'm looking at being a sole breadwinner initially, as a teacher.

I'm not sure what a teacher earns in Norway, but I do know its expensive.

My wife will hopefully find work (she is an accountant, but will do whatever she needs to do to bring home some of the bacon.)

Is it possible to get by on the money I'm likely to earn? Also, is it possible to buy a home there? The idea being that we can save on rental, and earn some capital gain on the home. Hopefully, eventually putting down roots and staying.

I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Regards

Hi, just wondered if you made the move to Alesund?
I am considering moving out with my 2 girls to join my partner who has been working and living there since October last year.
Kind Regards Louise

I wouldn't bother. You should read all posts here, read a book called "Working in Norway" by Warren Davies. Oslo might be easier but not Alesund. If you think everything through, you'll realise it's a bad idea. Norway is survivable with the support of extended family. You don't have that.

If you don't know what that is, you are way out of your depth.

Hi Jackie,

HRT is habitual residency test, it will only really apply if you wish to claim benefits in the UK if you return.
Jonty, I really don't know why you are being so negative and assume everyone is stupid. I merely asked a simple question and you have given nothing but negative responses to any questions asked.

OK Lou, the floor's yours. Just explain to everyone why what happened to Stig Arne Jonsson won't happen to them

I don't see what a Swedish citizens claim for unemployment benefits in Norway, has to do with me asking questions about moving to Norway.
I don't need to work, I am extremely financially secure so would never be in a situation where I needed to claim benefits!
